Solar respects your privacy and is committed to providing Users a secure experience on the Site. This Privacy Policy describes how the Company uses and protects any information that you voluntarily provide the Company when you use the Site and Services as a registered or non-registered User.

Collecting Information

In operating the Site and Services, we need to collect and maintain certain nonpublic personally identifiable information about you. We collect information from you in many ways, including when you register on the Site, subscribe to our newsletter, respond to a survey, fill out a form; or captain, participate in or fund a Project. We may use this personal information about you to service and maintain your membership at Solar, create neutral demographic analytics, and to develop, offer, and deliver products and services; or to fulfill legal and regulatory requirements.

When you visit the Site, we also collect technical and navigational information, such as computer browser type, Internet protocol address ("IP address"), pages visited, and average time spent on the Site. This information may be used for many purposes, including alerting you to software compatibility issues, or improving Site design and functionality, and creating neutral demographic analytics. To maintain security of your online session and prevent unauthorized users and technologies from accessing your account we use firewall barriers, encryption techniques and authentication procedures.

Any personal information or content that you voluntarily disclose for posting on the Site ("Content"), including Projects, becomes available to the public. We reserve the right, but have no obligation, to monitor the Content you post on the Site. We have the right to remove any information or material posted on the Site for any reason or no reason, including without limitation, if in our sole opinion, such information or material violates, or may violate, any applicable law, Solar Terms of Use, If you remove Content, copies may remain viewable in cached and archived pages or if other users have copied or stored your Content. We also reserve the right to remove information upon the request of any third party.

We collect information about our users in three ways: directly from you, from our web server logs, and through cookies. The following information may be collected in connection with your use of the Site and Services:
  1. Information you voluntarily provide online and upon registration, in project creation, through tools, and in other areas of the site may include your name, address, e-mail address, telephone number, Social Security number, EIN, date of birth, income, preferences, interests, and any information about your personal goals or objectives;
  2. Information entered online that may be stored even if you do not complete or submit a project;
  3. Information about your transactions through us, only if applicable;
  4. Information from third parties in order to verify your identity or to prevent fraud;
Certain information is required to activate Projects where funds are ultimately distributed to an individual or company that is not a federally registered 501c-3 charity. This information is used to verify identification of the individual or company who will be in receipt of the funds raised through Solar


We are committed to ensuring that your information is secure, and use commercially reasonable physical, managerial, and technical safeguards to preserve the integrity and security of your personal information. We employ a variety of security measures, including encryption and authentication tools. We may store nonpublic personally identifiable information in locations outside of our direct control such as on servers, or databases co-located with hosting providers and in the cloud. Your personal information is stored behind firewalls and is accessible only by the limited number of people who encounter this information in the natural course of their business and are required to keep the information confidential.

Solar does not sell, rent, or license, or otherwise disclose nonpublic personally identifiable information about current or former Users of the Site to anyone, except in cooperation with the government and regulatory agencies and with a lawful summons, court order, subpoena, fraud investigation, audit or regulatory examination, or as permitted by law, to non-affiliated third parties that help us provide services to you. All non-affiliated third parties that accept or receive this information from us are obligated contractually or by law or regulation to keep this information confidential and to use the information only to provide us agreed to services.

When you participate in a financial transaction we use a secure server and third party payment processors. To the extent you select the secure server method and your browser supports such functionality, all credit card information you supply is transmitted via Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology. Solar uses PayPal as a third party donation and payment tool to process all transactions on the Site.

No one sees your credit card information besides the Payment Processor. Neither Solar nor the recipient of your funding has access to your credit card or payment processing information. Solar may add additional third party payment processors at its discretion. Please review their Terms and Uses, and Privacy Policies.

Despite these best practices, the internet is not 100% secure. We cannot guarantee that unauthorized persons or technology will not be able to find a way to break through our best efforts to provide you security. Notify Solar immediately if you become aware of any disclosure, loss, theft, compromise or unauthorized use of your User ID. To protect your privacy and security, maintain the secrecy of your unique password and User information, and for controlling access to your User ID, at all times.

In the event that personal information is compromised as a result of a breach of security, Solar will use its best efforts to promptly notify you, if your personal information has been compromised. We will transmit this notification according to the Notification section of this Privacy Policy, or as otherwise required by applicable law.


A cookie is a small file which asks permission to be placed on your computer's hard drive. Once you use a website and accept its cookies, the file is added and the cookie helps analyze web traffic or lets you know when you visit a particular site. Cookies allow web applications to respond to you as an individual. The web application can tailor its operations to your needs, likes and dislikes by gathering and remembering information about your preferences. We use traffic log cookies to identify which pages are being used. This helps us analyze data about webpage traffic and improve our website in order to tailor it to our User's needs.

Solar only uses this information for statistical analysis purposes. Overall, cookies help us provide you with a better website, by enabling us to monitor which pages you find useful or not. A cookie does not give us access to your computer, mobile device, or any information about you, other than the data you have chosen to share with us. We may contract with third-party service providers to assist us in better understanding our site visitors. These service providers are not permitted to use the information collected on our behalf except to help us conduct and improve our business and your use of the Site.

The Site may contain links to other websites of interest. However, once you have enabled these links, you should know that we do not have any control over any other website or third parties. Therefore, we cannot be responsible for the protection and privacy of any information which you provide when visiting such sites and such sites are not governed by this privacy statement. We are not responsible for the practices employed by Web sites linked to or from our Site nor the information or content contained therein. Browsing and interaction on any other website, including those that have a link on our Site, is subject to that website’s own rules and policies. You should exercise caution and agree to the privacy statement applicable to any third party website before proceeding.

Controlling Personal Information

We will not sell, distribute or lease your personal information to third parties unless we have your permission or are required by law to do so. We may use your personal information to send you newsletters, information about the Site and Services, and promotional information about third parties which we think you may find interesting if you ask for it. You may request details of our personal information about you under the Data Protection Act 1998. If you believe that any information we have about you is incorrect or incomplete, please write to or email us as soon as possible, at the above address. We will do our best to promptly correct any information found to be incorrect.

Children's Online Privacy Protection Act Compliance

Our website, products and services are for people who are at least 13 years old or older. Accordingly, we are in compliance with the requirements of COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act) and do not collect any information from anyone under 13 years of age.


The Company provides notifications, whether such notifications are required by law or are for marketing or other business related purposes, to you via email notice or through posting of such notice on the Site. We reserve the right, at our sole discretion, to determine the form and means of providing notifications to you.

By using our site and checking off "Agree" on Terms and Use, you consent to our privacy policy. Your continued use of the Site and Services indicates that you agree to this policy and updates.

Changes to Privacy Policy

The Company at its discretion may change this policy from time to time, without notice. If we decide to change our privacy policy, we will post those changes on this page, post a message that the Policy has been updated in a Public area of the Site, and update the Privacy Policy modification date below.
